What official fuel data shows about daily forecourt price patterns

Official UK government fuel price data, published under the Open Government Licence v3.0, is updated through the day for thousands of forecourts. Across the last seven days, a small number of stations show the same price move at roughly the same time on several separate days. A station is listed only where a grade moved in both directions at a consistent time on at least three of the last seven days; a one-off change is not included.

INNER SPACE STATIONS, YORK (YO10 3LE): diesel cut by about 2.0p around 7am, then put it back up within hours, on 5 of the last 7 days.

Valero, NUNEATON (CV10 0AD): diesel and unleaded cut by about 2.0p around 6am, then put it back up within hours, on 4 of the last 7 days.

SHELL, GOOLE (DN14 8JS): diesel, super diesel, premium unleaded and unleaded raised by about 2.1p around 10pm, then lowered it again within hours, on 7 of the last 7 days.

Parkfoot Garage Limited, WEST MALLING (ME19 5AE): premium unleaded and super diesel cut by about 10.8p around 8pm, then put it back up within hours, on 5 of the last 7 days.

BP, BROUGH (HU15 2SL): unleaded, super diesel and diesel raised by about 1.0p around 10pm, then lowered it again within hours, on 4 of the last 7 days.

BP, HULL (HU5 5BA): diesel, unleaded, premium unleaded and super diesel raised by about 1.0p around 10pm, then lowered it again within hours, on 4 of the last 7 days.

BP, HULL (HU9 5QL): super diesel, unleaded and diesel raised by about 1.0p around 10pm, then lowered it again within hours, on 4 of the last 7 days.

What this does and does not mean. A repeated pattern in the data is an observation, not a finding of wrongdoing. A price that changes at a similar time each day can have many explanations: normal changes in wholesale supplier costs, local competition, staffing or operational schedules, the timing of when a station reports its prices to the government feed, recording or data errors, or a deliberate pricing decision. We are not alleging that any named retailer has acted improperly or unlawfully, and no such conclusion should be drawn from the timing of a price change alone.
