Hyundai Ioniq 3: small EV targets European buyers from £25,000

Hyundai's new Ioniq 3 compact electric hatchback is due to reach UK showrooms in September, with prices starting from £25,000.
Hyundai is preparing to launch its smallest electric car yet, with multiple reports confirming that the Ioniq 3 will arrive in the UK in September priced from £25,000. The model slots beneath the Ioniq 5, Ioniq 6 and Ioniq 9 in the brand's dedicated electric line-up, and is aimed squarely at the growing market for affordable compact EVs, placing it in direct competition with rivals such as the Renault 5.
Despite appearances suggesting a car of Golf-sized proportions, the Ioniq 3 measures just 4,155mm in length in standard form, closer to a Volkswagen Polo on the outside. The N Line trim adds a few millimetres to reach 4,170mm. However, according to multiple reports, the wheelbase is longer than that of a Golf, which translates into a notably spacious interior relative to the car's external footprint.
Hyundai describes the Ioniq 3 not as a conventional supermini or crossover, but as an 'aero hatch', a low-slung design intended to minimise aerodynamic drag and improve cruising efficiency. The car also introduces a fresh design language, updated user interface and revised interior treatment that the company intends to carry across its wider electric range in due course.
Prototype drives conducted at a Hyundai test facility have drawn broadly positive early impressions, with handling and practicality highlighted as particular strengths. UK buyers weighing up the Ioniq 3 alongside other compact EVs can compare running costs and insurance options at Driver.co.uk before the car reaches forecourts this autumn.
