DfT Complaints Assessor Reviews Escalated Cases in 2024-25

By Anthony Sharkey, Chief Operating Officer, New Reg Limited

The Department for Transport has published its Independent Complaints Assessor report covering the full 2024 to 2025 financial year.

The Department for Transport has released the findings of its Independent Complaints Assessor for the period running from 1 April 2024 to 31 March 2025. The report covers cases that were escalated beyond the department's standard internal complaints process, representing those where members of the public felt their concerns had not been adequately resolved at an earlier stage.

The Independent Complaints Assessor role exists to provide an impartial review of complaints made against the Department for Transport after they have gone through the standard resolution channels without a satisfactory outcome. It acts as a further layer of accountability for the department, giving members of the public a formal route to challenge decisions or the handling of their case.

For UK drivers, the existence of this oversight mechanism is a reminder that government bodies responsible for transport policy and licensing are subject to independent scrutiny. Issues relating to driving licences, vehicle registration or transport policy decisions can, in certain circumstances, be pursued through formal complaint routes if initial responses from the department are considered unsatisfactory.

Drivers who want to stay informed about their rights, licensing requirements or changes to transport regulations can find practical guidance at Driver.co.uk, which covers a broad range of topics relevant to motorists across the UK.
