UK petrol and diesel prices: what drivers are paying today

Average petrol stands at 161.6p a litre across UK forecourts, while diesel is nearly 20p a litre higher at 181.9p.
Petrol is averaging 161.6p a litre at UK filling stations right now, with diesel sitting at 181.9p, meaning drivers of diesel vehicles are paying roughly 20.3p more per litre than those running on standard unleaded. The figures come from official UK fuel price data drawn from 7,815 forecourts and refreshed continuously throughout the day.
For petrol drivers, that 161.6p average works out at around £7.35 a gallon for standard E10 unleaded. Those running newer or older vehicles on premium E5 unleaded are paying noticeably more, at 178.9p a litre, which equates to approximately £8.13 a gallon. The gap between standard and premium petrol alone is over 17p a litre.
Diesel drivers are feeling the sharpest squeeze. At 181.9p a litre, or about £8.27 a gallon for B7 diesel, filling a typical 60-litre tank costs around £109. That is roughly £12 more than the same fill-up on standard unleaded petrol, which adds up quickly for anyone covering high mileages or towing regularly.
