UK fuel brand league: 12.4p a litre from cheapest to dearest

By Anthony Sharkey, Chief Operating Officer, New Reg Limited

Ranked from official price data, Go leads on average unleaded at 152.8p, against a 24-brand mean of 160.2p.

Ranking the 24 UK fuel brands with at least 20 reporting forecourts, average unleaded runs from 152.8p at Go to 165.2p at Shell, a 12.4p per litre spread around a 160.2p mean.

Cheapest five by average: Go at 152.8p across 30 sites; Maxol at 154.3p across 89 sites; Solo at 154.8p across 40 sites; Circle K at 156.3p across 43 sites; Asda at 158.6p across 321 sites.

Brand averages reflect estate composition as much as pricing policy: a chain concentrated in one region, or weighted towards supermarket sites, reads cheaper for reasons of geography rather than strategy. Motorway services operators are excluded from the table because their pricing reflects the motorway premium, which Promo tracks separately. The minimum site count keeps small estates from distorting the ranking.

Figures taken on 26 August 2026. Every figure here is computed from official UK government fuel price data (Open Government Licence v3.0) as published by fuel.co.uk. This page is refreshed with the latest prices, so the figures above are those of the date shown, not of the date it first appeared. Pump prices change through the day and may differ by the time you read this. Averages describe groups of forecourts, not every site within a group. This is general information, not financial advice.
