RUF's Ehra: the analogue 911 Porsche won't build you

German coachbuilder RUF has revealed the Ehra, a deliberately stripped-back, driver-focused sports car built on 911 foundations that Porsche itself has no plans to offer.
RUF has unveiled a new sports car called the Ehra, a compact and purposefully analogue machine built around the 911's DNA that no Porsche showroom will ever stock. According to multiple reports, the car is named after the high-speed test track where RUF's legendary Yellowbird cemented its place in motorsport history, and it has been designed from the outset to put the driver at the centre of the experience rather than layer technology on top of it.
The timing of the reveal carries its own significance. Multiple reports note that the announcement arrives as Porsche marks the Nurburgring's centenary, a nod to a circuit that has shaped the way performance cars are developed and celebrated for a century. The Ehra, by contrast, takes its name from a different stretch of tarmac altogether, one that means a great deal to RUF's own story.
What makes the Ehra notable is precisely what it lacks. Where modern sports cars increasingly rely on driver-assistance systems, digital interfaces and electrically assisted steering to deliver their performance, RUF has gone the other way, producing something deliberately compact and tactile. For enthusiasts who feel that contemporary performance cars have grown too large and too mediated by electronics, the Ehra represents a different philosophy entirely.
