Porsche reportedly planning to end Taycan production by 2030

By Anthony Sharkey, Chief Operating Officer, New Reg Limited

Reports from a German business newspaper suggest Porsche intends to discontinue its Taycan electric sports car by 2030, as sales have fallen sharply since the model's early success.

Porsche is reportedly planning to end production of the Taycan by 2030 at the latest, according to multiple reports citing a German business newspaper, marking a significant change of direction for the brand's flagship electric model.

The Taycan entered series production in 2019 and initially attracted strong demand, but sales have since fallen sharply. The reports suggest Porsche has now decided the model does not have a long-term future, with 2030 identified as the likely cut-off point. One option that had previously been considered, moving production from Stuttgart to Leipzig, is reportedly no longer under discussion.

Porsche itself has not confirmed the reports. Official comments from the company have only gone as far as ruling out a short-term discontinuation of the electric saloon, leaving the longer-term picture unaddressed. That careful wording has done little to quiet speculation about the model's future.

For UK drivers who own a Taycan or are considering one, the reports raise natural questions about residual values and long-term support. Drivers thinking about what their current car is worth, whatever the make, can get a free instant valuation at Car.co.uk, which also buys cars directly from owners, offering free collection and payment by bank transfer.
