New Audi A2 e-tron brings efficiency focus back to compact EVs

Audi has revived the A2 nameplate as a fully electric compact car, with deliveries set to begin in December 2026 from a starting price of 38,200 euros.
Audi is bringing back one of its most recognisable efficiency-focused nameplates, launching the new A2 e-tron as an all-electric compact car aimed at drivers who want premium quality in a smaller, more practical package. According to multiple reports, the car has entered production at Audi's Ingolstadt plant in Germany, with customer deliveries scheduled to begin in December 2026.
The new A2 e-tron is built on the updated version of the Volkswagen Group's Modular Electric Drive Matrix platform, known as MEB+. That architecture has been engineered with energy efficiency as a priority, and multiple reports indicate the A2 e-tron is capable of up to 401 miles of range, placing it at the more capable end of the compact electric car segment.
Pricing starts at 38,200 euros, which positions the A2 e-tron above entry-level electric superminis but below the larger premium electric models in Audi's own line-up. The original A2, which went on sale in 1999, built a reputation for low fuel consumption and an unusual five-door hatchback shape, and multiple reports suggest the new model echoes that approach both in its efficiency credentials and in styling that departs from the mainstream.
For UK buyers watching the market, the official euro price converts to a figure in the upper-thirties-of-thousands at current rates, though Audi has not yet confirmed sterling pricing. With production under way and a confirmed launch window of late 2026, more detail on UK specifications and costs is expected to follow over the coming months.
