Mercedes-AMG electric GT 53 arrives with synthetic inline-six sound

Mercedes-AMG has added a more affordable, longer-range GT 53 4-Door Coupé to its electric line-up, complete with a synthesised inline-six soundtrack.
Mercedes-AMG has introduced a new entry-level variant of its electric GT 4-Door Coupé, called the GT 53, which sits below the GT 55 and GT 63 in the range and offers a lower price and greater range in exchange for reduced straight-line performance, according to multiple reports.
The GT 53 uses two electric motors rather than the three found in the GT 63, giving it four-wheel drive with a combined output of 544bhp and 590lb ft of torque. That compares with 1,180bhp and 1,033lb ft in the GT 63, which is a significant step down, though the GT 53 still accelerates from 0 to 62mph in a claimed 3.5 seconds. The extra motor removed from the GT 63 setup also accounts for the more competitive starting price that positions this model against rivals such as the Porsche Taycan 4S.
One of the more unusual features of the GT 53 is its synthesised sound. Rather than mimicking the electric motors themselves or defaulting to silence, Mercedes-AMG has chosen to recreate what it describes as an authentic inline-six engine note inside the cabin. The GT 63, by contrast, generates a synthesised V8 sound, so the two models are differentiated not just by power but by their acoustic character as well.
