Fiat Multiplay concept blends pickup, SUV and minivan in one

By William Fletcher MBE, Chief Executive Officer, New Reg Limited

Fiat has revealed the Multiplay concept, a vehicle that combines three body styles in a single design inspired by the original Multipla.

Fiat has unveiled the Multiplay, a concept car that attempts to merge the proportions of a pickup truck, an SUV and a minivan into a single vehicle, drawing on the spirit of the brand's unconventional Multipla of the late 1990s.

According to multiple reports, the Multiplay is a bold design exercise rather than a direct preview of any model heading for showrooms. Fiat has been explicit on this point, stating that the concept does not represent a specific production vehicle planned for the future, which means buyers should treat it as a statement of intent rather than a promise of something they can order.

The design itself is notable for how deliberately it resists a single category. A pickup-style rear load area, SUV ride height and stance, and minivan-like cabin volume are brought together in one body, echoing the original Multipla's willingness to ignore convention in the pursuit of practicality. That earlier car divided opinion sharply when it was introduced, and the Multiplay appears designed to provoke a similarly strong reaction.

For now, the Multiplay exists as a concept and a talking point rather than a vehicle with a price, a launch date or a confirmed specification. Drivers curious about Fiat's broader direction may find it a useful signal of where the brand's designers see room to experiment, even if the road to any production version remains uncertain.
