DVLA publishes its business plan for 2026 to 2027
By William Fletcher MBE, Chief Executive Officer, New Reg Limited
The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency has released its business plan covering the 2026 to 2027 period, setting out its priorities for the year ahead.
The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency has published its business plan for 2026 to 2027, giving drivers, vehicle owners and the wider motor trade a formal statement of what the agency intends to focus on over the coming year. The plan has been announced jointly through the DVLA and the Department for Transport.
Business plans of this kind set out how a government agency will allocate its resources, which services it will prioritise and how it expects to measure its own performance. For ordinary drivers, a published plan provides a degree of transparency about the organisation responsible for issuing driving licences, registering vehicles and maintaining the national records that underpin road use across the UK.
The DVLA handles tens of millions of transactions each year, covering everything from first-time licence applications and licence renewals to vehicle registration and the management of personalised number plates. Any shift in how the agency plans to organise or invest in those services has a direct bearing on processing times and the experience drivers have when they need to contact or transact with it.
The full plan is available through official UK government channels and sets out the agency's stated commitments for the period in detail. Drivers or businesses with a particular interest in DVLA operations, such as fleet managers, motor traders or those awaiting outstanding applications, may find it useful to review the document directly.
