DVLA launches campaign to crack down on untaxed vehicles

By William Fletcher MBE, Chief Executive Officer, New Reg Limited

The DVLA has unveiled a new awareness campaign using a talking clamp character to remind drivers of the consequences of not taxing their vehicles.

The DVLA has launched a fresh campaign warning drivers that failing to tax their vehicle carries real consequences, with the message that "nobody wins" when vehicle tax is ignored. The campaign uses a talking clamp as its central character to bring the message to life and reach drivers who may have let their vehicle tax lapse.

Drivers caught without valid vehicle tax face penalties including fines, clamping, and in some cases having their vehicle impounded. The DVLA has consistently used enforcement alongside awareness activity to reduce the number of untaxed vehicles on UK roads.

Vehicle tax can be renewed quickly online using a V5C logbook, MOT certificate, or reminder letter from the DVLA. Keeping paperwork in order is the simplest way to avoid penalties, and services such as Garage.co.uk can help drivers stay on top of MOT renewals and vehicle maintenance schedules that feed into the taxing process.

The campaign is a timely reminder that vehicle tax is a legal requirement and that enforcement activity remains ongoing across the UK.
