Citroën has revealed an electric 2CV concept at the Paris Motor Show, with a production version targeting a €15,000 starting price due by 2028.
Citroën is bringing back the 2CV as an electric production car, with the brand confirming a starting price of around €15,000 and a target launch date of 2028, according to multiple reports.
The concept, shown at the Paris Motor Show, is designed to channel the character and simplicity of the original 2CV rather than simply recreate its looks. The car is intended to be accessible and affordable, continuing the founding idea behind the original model that millions of European drivers will recognise from the middle of the last century.
For UK buyers, the €15,000 price point is the most significant detail. At current exchange rates that would place the car in a segment where very few new electric vehicles currently compete, potentially making it one of the more affordable new EVs on the British market when it arrives, assuming UK availability is confirmed closer to launch.
Production is reported to be planned for Europe, which would mark a deliberate positioning of the car as a locally built, mass-market electric vehicle. The 2028 timeline means there are several years before the production version reaches showrooms, and final specifications, range figures and pricing in sterling have not yet been confirmed.
