Bugatti turns track-only Bolide into a 1,578 hp road car

Bugatti has created a road-legal one-off hypercar based on the Bolide's carbon monocoque, producing 1,578 hp as the third entry in its Programme Solitaire series.
Bugatti has converted the architecture of its track-only Bolide racing car into a road-legal one-off hypercar, named the Destrier, producing 1,578 hp and built for a single private customer as part of the manufacturer's Programme Solitaire collection.
The Destrier is the third car to emerge from Programme Solitaire, a strand of Bugatti's work dedicated to wholly bespoke, one-of-a-kind commissions. According to multiple reports, the project follows the Mistral, which marked the retirement of the brand's W16 engine, and this new creation continues that thread of extreme, individually tailored engineering. The Bolide was originally conceived as a closed-course racing machine, making this road-going adaptation a significant departure from its original brief.
Rather than carrying over the Bolide's overtly race-focused appearance, the Destrier takes its inspiration from what multiple reports describe as elegance, history and craftsmanship. The result is a car built on a carbon monocoque chassis but clothed in bodywork that leans towards sculptural design rather than aerodynamic aggression. The name Destrier refers to the powerful warhorses ridden by medieval knights, a reference the marque appears to have chosen deliberately to evoke strength combined with refinement.
