BMW M350 xDrive prototype spotted with 443 hp and drift mode

BMW is deep into development of a new M350 xDrive, a high-performance flagship version of its next-generation 3 Series that will produce 443 hp and include a drift mode capable of sending drive exclusively to the rear wheels, according to multiple reports.

The car retains an internal combustion engine rather than moving to full electrification, with mild-hybrid assistance built into the powertrain. That combination suggests BMW is prioritising a traditional performance character for this variant while still meeting efficiency targets that modern regulations demand of new petrol-powered models.

Chassis development is also part of the programme, with revised suspension and drivetrain technology expected to sharpen the car's handling beyond what the current generation offers. The drift mode, which effectively converts the all-wheel-drive system to rear-wheel drive at the driver's request, points to an intention to give the M350 xDrive a more driver-focused personality than its xDrive badge might imply.

Prototype images circulating among multiple automotive outlets show the car still wearing heavy camouflage, confirming that development testing is continuing and a production-ready reveal has not yet taken place. No official on-sale date or pricing has been confirmed by BMW at this stage.
